Predictions Of Major Flooding On The Mississippi

A forecast of flooding along the Mississippi comes from a non traditional source, Insurance Companies. The generic media are not even in the loop on this story. There are reliable reports that major insurance companies are telling agents and adjusters that flooding along the Mighty Mississippi THIS spring may be worse than the flooding back in 1973. Rainfall has been excessive this winter with mega amounts of unmelted snow up north that has to come south. Insurance companies pay big bucks to weather consultants to gauge potential losses and they're making preparations right now. The Feds have decreed that levees in Central Louisiana are not qualified, so the potential for havoc and political fallout is great. The Mississippi and Red River are high already.

In 1973 the Old River Structure almost failed. This would have left Baton Rouge and New Orleans high and dry. If we indeed get another flood like that one we've had it.

.......I REMEMBER 1973.....as floods go it was a pretty good one..............but not like 1927..........or 1945...or 1957.........we might get to test the levees.......HAS.......anybody seen or heard from our levee board ????.or the RED RIVER WATERWAY COMISSION.......the locks and dams are not going to help much in high water..........................................................I'M ...looking for high ground........

Glad I'm 68 feet above and 3 miles from the mighty Red. The flooding we had back in October was the highest in over 10 years if I read correctly, and according to the news sources, this spring's rise will be even higher.

That's right. Forgot about that. In 1973 we didn't have the locks and dams on the Red. There is no way that the locks & dams, even if wide open, can let enough water pass through to avoid flooding if we have a repeat of the 1973 high water.

A special thank you to Mayor Roy, Mayor Fields and the good folks at the Red River, Atchafalaya, and Bayou Boeuf Levee District.
